Ah, America…nothing says ‘Murica more than blasting and carving giant faces in a mountain. The first face is none other than the Father of Our Country, good ol’ Washington himself. I wonder what that cherry tree ever did to him though.

A crow squaks over head as we make our way to the trail but I pretend it’s a bald eagle. No one can accuse me of being unpatriotic, sounds like freedom to me. I see Thomas Jefferson’s mug and think how late he had to stay up at night to draft the Declaration and if his wife got mad and whether he had to sleep on the couch. No tradition runs deeper in this country than the wife putting the husband in the dog house.

We round the bend and I take a deep breath of pine and liberty, yep the place smells of American ideals and bbq. The shafted president in the shadow, poor Teddy Roosevelt, the one everyone has to google to remember who it is. For those of you scratching your heads, he is the father of our national parks and gained fame charging up a hill called San Juan. You’re welcome.

We finish up the trail and as any good Americans the feeling of accomplishment is high. Nothing motivates one more than a challenge and something to conquer. We are the best after all. Winners of the space race. Back-to-back world war champs. Speaking of, last but certainly not least up is Ol’ Abe Lincoln who kept our country from shrinking’ in half. Good man, Abe.
