After the confidence building peak the day prior, we set our sights on the “Half Dome of San Diego”, Corte Madera. The drive out was enough to peak our interest and our trusty little four-banger car bounced around the dirt road channeling it’s inner quad.
The hike hit all the right notes straight from the start. It starts in a canyon that winds its way up an ATV road with some grand views. Then it skips over to bounce up and over a few false peaks before a dramatic entrance to the summit. This view blew me away. While this hike was challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip. Nary a single curse word! It could be that the cooler than normal temps played a part, or the fact I could be in better hiking shape compared to this time last year, or maybe it’s perspective that I will never sweat and pant as much as I had climbing to Hamilton Lake. Whatever the reason, this is probably my favorite day hike I have done yet.
Our tramily packed up the Yellow Submarine for some camping and hiking fun at altitude. Our goal: summit our first Colorado 14er, Mount Sherman.
