Switchbacks [noun]: type of trail used to ascend steep peaks in which the trail zig zags up the mountain resulting in lost time, energy and demoralizing mentality.
After the blunder of pushing too hard, too fast on Mt. Wilson we took a break from peak bagging to recover and have fun on flat ground. After a couple months off (read as waiting for snow to melt) we picked up our list and decided on Mount Baden-Powell off the PCT in Angeles National Forest.
Shout out to any Boy Scouts reading, this hike was for you. Mount Baden-Powell (the dude started the Boy Scouts), more like Mount So-Many-Effin-Switchbacks. The shuffling back and forth was reminiscent of playing Pokemon gameboy and that never ending back and forth shuffling for the elusive pikachu in Viridian Forest…wow, that spiraled. There was a decent amount of snow but enough previous traffic to pave a path. That saddle though! Mind-blowing! Some <very-not-nice-person> stole the sign from the peak so we had to make due with the torn flag. ‘Merica!
Our tramily packed up the Yellow Submarine for some camping and hiking fun at altitude. Our goal: summit our first Colorado 14er, Mount Sherman.
