Talus [noun]: large, jagged rocks that must be traversed over, killer on the feet and spirit.
So we skipped ahead to the third peak on the list because camping was plentiful out near Leadville. It was a big jump though, we were looking at our first Colorado 14er with little hiking training under our belts for the season and even less altitude training. Naturally, we somehow ended up heading to the “harder” of the two possible routes up. All because this was the side closer to civilization, and thusly celebratory pints.
This was a very punchy 14er. It was only 2.2 miles to the top but we gained 2,200 feet of elevation over those few miles. Throw in a lengthy, sketchy talus field to navigate with a harrowing drop for good measure. Oh, and we had gail force winds at the ridge line akin to our first attempt at Baldy. But guess what, we made it. The tramily’s first CO 14er, Leinie’s first ever 14er (of course, he pulled us all the way up, why do you ask). Holy wildflowers Batman though!
Leadville’s only brewery is not dog friendly to our dismay so we had to cart our hanger-filled tramily to Frisco for some celebratory pints at a brewery any decent Denverite would deem “a vibe”. The APA was heavily on the floral side, but so was our hike up Sherman.
Sooo many wildflowers

Celebratory Pints!
Our tramily packed up the Yellow Submarine for some camping and hiking fun at altitude. Our goal: summit our first Colorado 14er, Mount Sherman.
